What Causes

Failed Double Glazing?

Double glazing in doors is vulnerable in the same way as your windows. Not only are blown or misted double glazing units unsightly, but they’re also some of the first signs that your double glazing is failing. There may be gaps in the glass, allowing moisture to move into the property. Cracks in the seals can also let moisture get between the glass panes, causing your windows to be cloudy while obscuring your view. However, some more severe issues come with faulty glass. The moisture that gets trapped in your windows can get into your home, leading to excessive dampness. The gaps in the seals can cause heat to escape, meaning your energy bills could quickly start to increase to compensate for the heat loss.

Gaskets for Double-Glazed Units

UPVC window exterior wedge-style gaskets exist on older style frames and are more likely to fail. The gasket goes between the glass and the structure and gets pushed in after the glass is fitted to keep it tightly in place. Bubble gaskets and flipper gaskets can usually be found on the frame part of an opening window to help keep the drafts and excess cold out of the building. UPVC Door Gaskets and seals are usually the flipper or bubble variety. If you are unsure of the actual seal you need for our double-glazing units, don’t worry because we’ll complete a survey to fit the correct gaskets to your windows.
